Daylight savings time ends on 4 November which means that stations should begin sending PSIP data to that effect on 5 October. Several stations will not have to bother because they never switched to DST: KHPK - RF10, KBOP - RF20, K25FW - RF25, KAZD - RF39, and KSTR - RF48. The details on how this process should be managed are in ATSC A/65 and FCC regulations require that all except low power stations must follow the standard.
KODF decided to really jump the gun and started the change at 10PM two days early:
KODF (RF 27)
Followed by a group that are starting one day early.
KTVT (RF 19)
KTXA (RF 29)
KMPX (RF 30)
KDTN (RF 43)
KTXD (RF 46)
A few stations set the date of the change to an obviously wrong value. KUVN decided on the 1st while KXAS and KXTX used the 28th. It looks like they have little or no control over when their PSIP hardware begins the DST change process but can force it to output bogus data. At least they know there is problem.
KUVN (RF 23)
KXAS (RF 24)
KXTX (RF 40)
So far, not enough stations have agreed on the time to fool my DTVPal DVR into thinking today is the start of DST.
One station waited until late in the day (9PM) but that is still too soon.
KDTX (RF 45)
Nothing happened today despite this being the day when it should.
A few stations began the process today. A day late is definitely better than a day early.
WFAA (RF 8)
KERA (RF 14)
KPXD (RF 42)
A couple more trickle in...
KFWD (RF 9)
KJJM (RF 34)
Two stations that provided bogus dates changed to the correct day of month yesterday:
KXAS (RF 24)
KXTX (RF 40)
A little before 7:30PM last night, KUVN switched to standard time. Wrong in every way. They have been sending a day of month value indicating that the switch was on the 1st since 4 Oct. I wouldn't have been surprised if they had performed the change early this morning but this is unique. As a bonus, for several minutes after they did the switch their broadcast time (which is an absolute value uneffected by DST status) was 1 hour, more or less, fast.
KUVN (RF 23)
KUVN (RF 23)
The way this is supposed to work is that after the entire area has completed the transition, the station changes its status to indicate standard time and set s the day and hour to zero. Since DFW is so far from the edge of a time zone, th at would be at 2AM CDT. A delay isn't a problem but isn't needed. Many did delay but by 4AM they were done with a few exceptions.
KODF couldn't get the timing right. 12:30AM is when they decided to do it. (Times in the x axis are all in CDT.)
KODF (RF 27)
But even odder was the choice of KDTX to set the day and hour to zero at 9PM yesterday and status to out of DST at 2AM today. Wrong.
KDTX (RF 45)
Three stations are still indicating daylight savings time is in effect: KDAF, KDFW, and KDFI.
After I contacted the local FOX affiliate (KDFW) their DS_status changed to out of DST this morning around 10AM. KDAF followed a bit later which was asurprise. KDFI is the FOX associated sister station to KDFW but their DS_status is still in DST.
