Flight 1

If this is day three of LDRS 22 then it must be time for the first flight of my level 3 bird to be. Here is the obligatory rocketeer by his rocket photo. For some reason there is a water bottle glued to my hand. It was a little bit warm out there on the plowed ground.

It sure looks a lot less impressive from way back here....

I guess I need a new scanner because the green flame seems much more impressive in person. And on film. But it is moving out nicely.

Here are a couple of pictures from after main deployment. First is the motor and electronics bays coming down on a Rocketman R12C parachute. You can also see the orange R3C drogue.

Followed by the nose on its very own R7C.

After I took those two pictures I raced over to the landing area expecting that I had hit a vehicle. I lucked out in that regard but instead I put that nice long piece of tubular nylon across a power line. Fortunately it was an insulated 110VAC drop. The Kloudbusters had a strict do not remove from power lines policy which I fully planned to respect. But their resident electrician was already there and blessed the removal from the power line. Whew. I would sure have hated to postpone my L3 attempt because I couldn't retrieve my rocket.

So the only thing to do was to do it again. But with a different motor. The L1060 was my first Animal Motor Works motor so it also gave me a Little practice in assembling the M1850.
